The Challenge

The Crown Estate manages the extraction of 15\u201320 million tonnes of marine aggregates from UK waters each year, a highly specialised sector requiring informed leadership. To prepare future decision-makers, Royal HaskoningDHV delivers the Marine Minerals Academy \u2014 including the course "An Introduction to the UK Ports Industry." They needed an engaging, expert-led session that would give attendees a clear understanding of how ports operate, the challenges they face, and how port activities intersect with the marine aggregates sector.

Our Solution

Drawing on over 30 years of maritime industry experience, Kevin designed and delivered a comprehensive presentation tailored to the needs of the Marine Minerals Academy. First developed in 2019, the session was refreshed post-pandemic for the 2022 cohort, and takes place annually. The content combined high-level industry insights with practical, real-world examples, covering ownership models, revenue streams, current issues, operational challenges, and emerging opportunities \u2013 all designed to give participants a grounded understanding of the port sector's commercial and operational landscape.
